The Gelsi Estate
The agriturismo I gelsi di santa cristina was born from an ancient monastery located in a suggestive valley immersed in the Umbrian countryside, four kilometers from the center of gubbio.

The Monks' Mulberry Trees
Our structure takes its name from the small church of Santa Cristina, still consecrated and part of the property, and from the main activity of the friars who lived there for a long time, growing mulberry trees to feed the silkworms.
It was originally a fortified farmhouse owned by the Church and the Benedictine convent of San Pietro in Gubbio. The oldest part dates back to the 14th century, while the delightful chapel is from the 18th century.
Over the years the structure has undergone changes and the land around it has been cleared to make arable land. The friars’ mulberry trees have thus given way to fields of wheat and sunflowers.
Two remain, splendid and majestic, whose branches have seen the centuries pass by and which still today shade the gardens of the house and the small chapel of Santa Cristina.

Water and sun
The entire complex is powered solely by electricity produced by photovoltaic panels, all accommodations have underfloor heating and the kitchens are equipped with electromagnetic induction hobs.
To avoid unnecessary waste, a rainwater collection system has been created, which is then drained into an underground cistern. The recovered water is then used to irrigate the outdoor spaces and for the toilets of the accommodations.
The farmhouse is immersed in an environment where harmony and tranquility reign, whose soundtrack is the singing of birds and the flowing of the nearby stream.
Light pollution is also minimized and outside lights can be turned off to enjoy the enchanting night sky.
